The people are already looking forward to the event with joyous enthusiasm and high spirits. Every Dzongkhag has a promose to offer: the capital city Thimphu is geared toward offering His Majesty clean Thimphu, Gelephu thromde (city) is all prepared for erecting a majestic clock tower, and the list goes on.

Even schools have something of its own to offer; a clock tower, a stupa, a rock garden, a canopy and so on, all under construction for next year.

Happenings of the year

As always the year’s calendar is flooded with events and celebrations, next year’s special one being our 4th king His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck’s 60th birth anniversary on 11th November. Though cold, it’s one of the best seasons to visit Bhutan.

Festivals around the country year round precedes the birth anniversary, two of which (Tshechu and Drubchen, religious festivals of masked dances) are equally stunning and fascinating cultural and religious festivals. Well, even if you happen to miss it in Thimphu, the calendar is full of such festivals in all the districts.

One interesting festival is the black necked cranes’ festival. Though held annually, next year will bring more light and color to it.

For a foreigner, every glimpse of Bhutanese ways of life would be a festival indeed. And unique in every ways is the word for it.
