Thimphu is the capital city of Bhutan. The city is a mixture of modernity and tradition. People from all walks of life live in Thimphu. As the biggest city in the country, its population has been on the rise. It is estimated that about 200,000 people live here. Also, the city is the seat of Bhutan’s government.

Some of the major attractions of the city are a magnificent Tashichoddozong which houses the office of His Majesty the King and a few government ministries, Changgangkha Lhakhang built by a famous lama called Phajo Drugom Zhigpo, the National Memorial Choten (built in the honor of the Third King of Bhutan who is venerated as the father of modern Bhutan). Other attractions include School of Traditional Arts and Crafts, the Institute of Traditional Medicine and the School of Astrology.
